Watercolour art
The art that started on paper and became one of the best selling fan designs!

Starting a new business is an exciting journey, albeit a scary one. What makes it even more terrifying is that it's based around something that I created and that relies on me and my story to make it work.

I've never really considered myself an 'artist'. Definitely not a 'proper artist' anyway. I guess I still don't, but I'm enjoying the process of becoming one.

When I started this little business, I thought it would be more about the products and less about the art. I also thought it would be a fairly straightforward, cookie cutter, strategic approach to 'e-commerce' that could be bought, learnt and implemented to sell products online. Maybe somewhat naively, I thought that if other people could simply add simple everyday products to Amazon and make them sell, then why couldn't I create something more beautiful and do the same?

Well I'm only a few months in and already my business model and idea has changed, and keeps changing. I think that's a good thing? Or definitely not a bad thing... but only time will tell!

This blog isn't about me

These are some of my current cards, prints, fans and bottles displayed at a recent market

Originally I had thought to be one of the 'faceless' creators, posting content and products without needing to show much of myself. But I soon realised that this was missing the whole point! Not only do people buy from people, but the story and the background is what makes something more interesting than just the product itself.

That said, I definitely do not want this blog, website or Instagram account to become an online biography or cathartic writing exercise to save on therapy sessions. That's not fun for you and certainly wouldn't help me either I don't think!

So, much like my artwork and products, I hope that this blog can share some interesting insights into the world of a small business start up and aspiring artist. The behind the scenes of artistic endeavours, the ideas for new products, the exploration of further opportunities and everything in between!

This is about you!

Something I've loved most so far is meeting so many different people at markets and seeing their reactions to my art and products.

It would be easy (and safe!) to keep these doodles to myself, without anyone to judge them and without exposing myself as an artist imposter. But, even if technically my doodles aren't the best, I love making them and love that you love them too! So I want to create more of what you love and hear your feedback and ideas so we can create something together.

How?

By subscribing to my mailing list, you'll not only receive these blog posts directly to your inbox, but you'll also be invited to give ideas for new designs. I'll also then make sure you're the first to hear about any new releases or limited editions, so you can have them before anyone else!

To stay committed to this concept, I promise to create a new design every month, based on your ideas and feedback, which I'll share directly with youin this newsletter and blog post.

It might then become a new card, a fan, a bag or something else, but it'll have been made with you and your ideas!

I'll do this monthly and you can comment your ideas here or e-mai me directly.

Maybe we can call it a club?

It's been so nice to meet so many of you at recent markets!

What's first?

It seems way too early, but I'd love to know how you think I can take Little Splash into Christmas!

Do you think I can customise the fans and boxes for Christmas gifts?

What designs should I work on for new Christmas cards?

Do you like an idea of a festive bag bundle?

I'd love to know what you think! And if you have any design ideas, i'll get to work this month!

I can't wait to start this process with you all!

Amy x
